Today marks the end of an era in amateur athletics in British Columbia; Howard Tsumura’s final day at the Province newspaper. Howard started at the Province in October 1990 with a passion for high school and university sports. He made it his life’s passion to showcase the incredible stories and talents of the young athletes across this province. He told of not just their results and successes, but their determination, sportsmanship and camaraderie. He wrote of the values and benefits of educational based athletics and the positive impacts on a school or community. On a daily basis, Howard brought to life a world where so many of us once participated, and nostalgically, often wish we could return. As the only full-time amateur sport beat writer in Canada, Howard delivered day after day to his invested readers. Whether it be his weekly rankings, his Head of the Class feature or the great human interest stories he told, Howard elevated school sport to the same pages as the Canucks, Whitecaps, and Lions. He brought pride to our schools, and raised the profiles of our athletes. We know this isn’t a good-bye, as there will be a next chapter in Howard’s story. However, as we reach the end of this chapter we would be remiss not to say thank you. Thank you for your tireless work and dedication to telling our stories. Thank you for advocating for amateur sport and the amazing people within it. We look forward to seeing what comes next, and working with you wherever we can. We wish you the best of luck. We will be watching… and as usual, reading.

Dear BCSS Member Schools and Stakeholders: Re: Extraordinary Meeting Package       As per the Bylaws of BC School Sports, please accept this as official notice of the calling of an Extraordinary Meeting called by the Board of Directors.   The meeting has been scheduled for November 23, 2016 at 7:00pm.  The meeting will be held at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex – West. The Meeting Package can be accessed online at the BCSS website, with the links to the specific documents below. Please note, as per our Bylaws, registration to vote will be open until 6:30pm. The purpose of this meeting being called is to present and pass updated Bylaws of the Association before the Societies Act changes come into effect on November 28th, 2016.   To conduct business, we will need to meet our quorum which has 20% of the membership (roughly 90 schools) and a representative from each of the 7 zones. The date of this meeting has been chosen to coincide with AA and AAA soccer provincials, in the hope that it will be easier to get a representative from each zone here. Please review the information carefully, and submit your proxy to the appropriate person. If you anticipate additional expenses to have your coach or association representative attend the meeting, please contact the office and we will work to make sure all zones and associations are represented.  The Meeting will be held at Burnaby Lakes Sports Complex-West (3677 Kensington Ave, Burnaby).  Agenda.pdf Summary of Major Changes to Proposed Replacement Bylaws.pdf Proposed Bylaws Fall 2016 - Combined Adv Voting and Proxy - FINAL.pdf Constitution & Bylaws 2016 Sept 6.pdf (Current Bylaws) Burnaby Lake Sports Complex Map.pdf Voting-Proxy Information Sheet.pdf Voting Forms.docx Thank you.  We look forward to seeing you on November 23.   Jordan Abney Executive Director BC School Sports
