Student-Athlete Eligibility

BCSS recognizes the right of all student-athletes to choose which school they attend and which subjects they study. BCSS, however, is charged with the responsibility of drafting, implementing and enforcing rules on eligibility for those student-athletes who seek the privilege of participating in interschool competition. The overriding purpose of these rules is to ensure fair and equitable competition for all student-athletes participating in BCSS activity.

Individual student-athletes must meet the applicable eligibility requirements of BCSS and any applicable sport commission gender-based equity rule to participate in BCSS competition, and be listed on the appropriate roster on the STudent-Athlete Registration System (STARS) to be eligible for competition.

Eligibility Overview

All student-athletes who intend to or have transferred from their home school after the first day of his/her second year of eligibility will be required to submit transfer documentation, in order to establish their eligibility at the new school. (Please refer to Sec 39.0.0 BC School Sports Handbook for additional information.) For more information, please contact the BCSS Office.

Eligibility Application

The Eligibility Application is on-going throughout the school year. The BCSS Eligibility officer reviews each application on a case by case basis. See Section 40.0.0 page 46 in the Handbook for more information.
